It was so named for two reasons; one, the first construction that happened in this area, was the Mormugao Eduction Society (M.E.S) College and secondly (but not surprisingly), the very first houses that were built in this area belonged to those in the teaching profession.

Over the last 30 years of its existence, Vidya nagar has grown into a bustling mini township and it's importance grew further with the establishment of the Airway Public School by Cherian Kuruvilla and the establishment of BITS Pilani K K Birla Goa Campus. This gave further weightage to the name "Vidya Nagar".

As buildings came up, shops were setup and today, a resident of Vidya nagar can shop for daily necessities within walkking distance of his or her residence. There are grocery stores, pharmacies, hardware stores, clothing, stationery, hotels, banks, ATM's, Horticulture, pump repair, air conditioner sales and repairs and even a chartered accountant, lawyer, dentist, general medical practitioners, medical clinics, ophthalmologist and a financial consultant. Vidyanagar is serviced by Swigy, Zomato and Blinkit. As for fresh fish, street vendors bring it to your door-steps what more does one need? Rent for a single bed-apartment starts from roughly Rs 7,000/month and a two-bed at Rs 12,000/month.

Vidyanagar has a residents welfare association and it also has a WhatsApp group which is used to communicate with residents and pass on vital information such as scheduled maintenance works and so forth. Residents use the group to communicate amongst themselves and also to inform the association about any issues they might face.

Vidya Nagar is located on national highway 566 that conntects the airport to Verna junction. If you need to come by taxi, just tell the driver "M.E.S College". Vidyanagar is located roughly 3 kilometers from the airport, 6 Km from Bogmolo beach, 7 Km from Velsao beach, 10 Km from Verna Industrial Estate, 11 Km from the harbour and 25 Km from the capital city of Goa; Panaji.

Vidya nagar is part of the Village Panchayat of Sancoale (we are in Ward No 1). Vidyanagar is represented at the Panchayat by our Panch. The current Panch is Shri Santosh Desai. You can contact him for help on voters id, property transfer, house tax issues, construction license, trade licenses etc. The panchayat office is located near Shri Shantadurga Temple, Cortalim, Goa. Politically, this place has the blessings of Sancoale Panchayat and the newly elected MLA Antonio Vaz.
